One Piece, up to the episode 3. Next is Legend of the Galactic Heroes.

I know, comparing to what One Piece has to offer I watched nothing. Three episodes, all they did was introducing three characters, one of them is a side kick. So, I basically have no right to judge this anime.

But I will ^^

Summer 2013 Set Menu

*GASP!* Choices, choices!

Is it just me, or are there a crap-ton of interesting shows this summer? I don't think my menu has had this many entries in a single season for, well, ever. I thought I was doing pretty good clearing out my watching list with the close of the spring, but then I started trying out summer shows and found myself loathe to drop any of them. Most of them were an immediate "Yes" after just one episode, but we'll see how many are still around midway through the season.

License Request Day

I was reminded after Kodansha's recent licenses at San Diego Comic Con (I'll have a post on them later) that they had both been on my last major pile. So, since I've used those requests up for the most part, let's take a look back at the bestseller charts. June 2013, to be precise.

I'm looking at the Top 50, which has 32 distinct titles on it (some titles have multiple volumes). 20 of these 32 are licensed, which shows you how "Company X never licenses the really popular stuff!" isn't true. So, already off the list are: One Piece, Naruto, Hunter x Hunter, Kimi ni Todoke, Attack on Titan, Blue Exorcist, Yotsuba&!, Bleach, Detective Conan, Black Butler, Real, Magi, Natsume's Book of Friends, Fairy Tail, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Toriko, Vagabond. Inu x Boku SS, Say "I Love You", and Drifters. Even if one of those is only as of yesterday. :)

The Films I'll Likely See at JFFSF 2013

I've been to New People Cinema (formerly Viz Cinema) of since it opened 4 years ago but not in a film festival setting like there will be when the inaugural kicks off in later this month in conjunction with the 5th annual in Japantown.

The theatre in the New People Center has been a venue for recent film festivals including the , , and the (New People was the festival hub) but I believe this is the first time it is solely hosting such an event.

A TV Show

Hello classmates. Today I'm going to write about a TV show I watched as a child.

As a little Asian girl (haha), I used to see several anime (Japanese animation) series in Hong Kong, such as Sailor Moon, Shin Chan, Wedding Peach, and Dragon Ball.I think the most important anime for me was Sailor Moon, because it marked a stage of my childhood. In fact, I still enjoy watching some scenes in Youtube, hearing its music, and contemplate the original drawings.

Final Thoughts: Spring 2013

Final Thoughts: Spring 2013As the spring anime season ends, I remind myself that I started this little thing just about two years ago. And I think I have improved. Not by a lot mind you, I still have a lot to learn, a lot of experience to acclimate, but still, I think I am better than I was two years ago. And hopefully I will continue to improve, continue to grow and evolve into the future. But enough about what is to come, let's look at the recent past. These are my final thoughts on the spring anime season. But first, let's look at the shows that I will continue to watch into the next season.

Cardfight!! Vangaurd- Link Joker-hen: This season is going strong and has finally introduced the titular season hook, Link Joker. Link Joker is a new clan in the card game and has a new ability that will really shake up the game. But this is about the anime, and Link Joker is doing something kind of cool in the anime. Link Joker is the clan of the series overall background villain, a sort of nebulous darkness that likes to destroy worlds. The plot seems to be that the villains will spread their clan throughout our world by defeating players and forcing them to play with the Link Joker clan. I like it, it is very different then what Cardfight usually does, though I am willing to bet that it will end in a tournament. Still, I look forward to more cardfighting, which is really awkward to say every time.

Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince- Majestic Prince is a strange show at times. At times a series about the intricacies of war, how you need a mascot for support back home and how when that mascot is your best squadron how it interferes with their performance, at other times a show talking about the incompetency of officers who have never seen real combat, and other times a series about five idiots trying to single handedly fight a war. Oh, and fan service. But seriously this show is really interesting. I want to see how the characters grow, how they form new relationships, and how they will end a war that is considered a harvest by the villains. This is a good show and I am very happy it is getting 13 or so more episodes.

One Piece, episode 1. I start to understand why people like it.

In my series of posts that I named "Take a peek" I watch 3-5 episodes of the biggest and most promising shows out there to form some sort of opinion. Well, that was the idea. This time I do one of the most famous and one of the longest anime series out here - One Piece.

As any anime fan I see stuff related to One Piece very-very often. Ever since I started talking on anime forums I have been seeing One Piece fanart, discussions and arguments about One Piece, how it is better or not than other shonen biggies. And to be honest, at the time I did not understand why people even like it. Art style of One Piece, when I was seeing it on static pictures, used to not impress me at all. And I used to find the character designs being anything, but in my taste. Not to mention that the all the villains look comical.

Anime // What to watch this summer

If you're looking for some new anime to watch during the summer I have a couple of recomendations that you might just like. Here is a list of a couple of recent anime that i've watched that I think are a MUST see. There's something for every taste so I hope this list comes in handy. ^^

[1] ATTACK ON TITAN // 2013 - ONGOING

One hundred years prior to the beginning of the story, giant humanoid creatures called Titans ( Kyojin) have forced humanity to devolve to a medieval level of technology and to retreat into a system of concentric Walls known as Wall Maria, Wall Rose, and Wall Sina. The series follows the story of Eren Jaeger, his adopted sister Mikasa Ackerman, and their friend Armin Arlert. After the outermost wall falls and Eren's mother dies in the resulting destruction, he vows revenge against the Titans and later enlists in the military, followed by his friends. Years later, during his first battle against the Titans, he discovers that he has the ability to transform into a Titan at will. Seen as a threat to mankind by some, and as a ray of hope by others, Eren joins his companions in a desperate fight to protect what remains of their society, while looking for answers to the mysteries surrounding the Titans, the Walls, and his newfound power as well.

Spring 2013 Anime Roundup

As a whole, Spring 2013 was a nod towards the old school. None of the titles captured the best of their respective genres - this will probably be remembered mostly as a spring season of mediocrity across the board - but the pleasant throwbacks to older times made each series pretty worthwhile for the hardcore anime fan. As usual, we got a lot of variety to pick from.

I'll start off by singling out the titles I think everyone should watch, my own opinions of quality aside. I like anime, so I try not to be too harsh on it, but if you're not hardcore about it and you don't have the time to consume as much anime as I do, I wouldn't say there was much released recently that is worth keeping up with in the scheme of things.

Hunter x Hunter (2011) Episode 88

TITLE: Hunter x Hunter (2011)

DESCRIPTION: A remake of the 1999 TV series of Hunter x Hunter based on the manga by Togashi Yoshihiro.

A Hunter is one who travels the world doing all sorts of dangerous tasks. From capturing criminals to searching deep within uncharted lands for any lost treasures. Gon is a young boy whose father disappeared long ago, being a Hunter. He believes if he could also follow his father's path, he could one day reunite with him.

My Entertainment Top 5 for 7/7-7/13: Hunter x Hunter, Blake Shelton, and more!

1. Hunter x Hunter- Yes, I'm an anime fan. Get over it. I've seen a few different anime series and the best way to impress me is to give me some action right in the beginning (although, I have to say that no anime does this better than Attack on Titan. You want to see some shizz go down fast? Just watch that. By episode 5 you won't be able to pick your jaw up off the floor). I don't want to mess around with basic character development (cough, Naruto, cough).Hunter x Hunter has thus far been quite solid. I'd probably put it in my top 5.The main character, Gon, while at first was a little on the annoying side (I think it's the voice actor) has started to really impress me with his blatant honesty and his potential . The supporting characters (particularly Killua and Kurapika) are phenomenal and the plot is captivating. I highly recommend it if you are looking for something to watch. To say that I was sad when I finally caught up is an understatement.I want more now. I'M SO IMPATIENT!

2. I think this video pretty much speaks for itself.

Anime Expo 2013

Yes. This is indeed what you think it is.

Let me preface this by saying just how scared I was that I wouldn't be able to make it this year.I wasn't frightened solely from the fact of not being able to go; I was terrified that after registering, figuring out my hotel situation, and purchasing my flight ticket, that work would not approve the time off for those couple of days around the Fourth of July.Since I'm newly hired and the only person in my department, my leaving depended greatly on how busy we were in the few days leading up to my proposed days.Thankfully, things worked out and I was able to follow through on my oft-repeated agreement to meet up with people. Spring 2013 Episode Rankings

No major changes to my personal rankings this week, with only one series moving more than three places up or down. There's been very little change at the top of the rankings all season, though there's a few series now at the bottom that I wouldn't have predicted 6-7 weeks ago. So, with few changes from last week worth talking about, I calculated thefor each series over the past 8 weeks, to see which series have moved around the most overall.

Yeah, I'm just that bored. But if you're reading this blog post, you can hardly talk.

Spring 2013 Episode Rankings

Was it just me, or were this week's anime offerings much better than usual? There were exceptions, unfortunately, but for the majority of the series I'm following, I'd say their 9th episodes were a step up. Here's hoping they continue to improve as we near the end of the spring season.

Nice try, lesser anime, but it'll take more than that to topple the Titan.1 -

Shingu Begins

After collecting dust for almost year, my long simmering desire to watch this science fiction series finally converted itself to actually watching Shingu. I'm only a little ways into the series. So it's a little early to start recommending Shingu to people looking for smart science fiction anime; but, Shingu is definitely trending in that direction right now.

Normally, I would be writing up my conclusions 8 days after starting to watch an older anime series because, normally, I would marathon it in a couple of days. (For example, I had Ghost Hound completely watched within 48 hours of starting the first episode.) In light of my current experiment of watching Space Battleship Yamato 2199 at one episode a week - to mimic the TV broadcast that no one is subbing - I decided to severely limit the number of episodes I would watch of Shingu in a day. I want to see if the generated anticipation increases my enjoyment of Shingu, like I think it should.

Loud Ninjas and Chimera Ants

Every anime fan becomes accustomed to suspension of disbelief. Once we learn and accept the logic that runs a particular show, we can enjoy it without becoming hung up on little things. If we can't believe in the logic, we may as well abandon the show for something more realistic... and most of us don't center our entertainment on 2D Japanese shows because we're looking for realism.

Five school idols all fall for a plain, normal girl? Sounds logical.

Cosfest XII

Cosfest 2013 is over.. The best event I've attended yet-- in terms of the quality, variety and choice of cosplay I saw over the two days and my learning experience. Taking the time off my psp to type a full recount because I want to record the experience down properly.

Initially I had 2 costumes, one for each day of the festival. Was rushing them up to the day before the event before I checked the facebook group post and realised that the Hunter X Hunter team on sunday had been postponed.

Well.. honestly it was a rather irresponsible of the team leader to not announce the news separately in a new post but I understand that he was caught up in the WCS so all it's ok~

By: Ethologist

Personally, I am looking forward to this show. Looks like it will offer a different perspective to the topic than past programs, that have covered similar topics. Also, the host seems very interesting and entertaining.
A fair amount have people on Cryptomundo in the past have made comments about certain cryptid related programs not effectively looking for/finding new species or evidence. I feel like that is a pointless argument on how good/or not so good a show is. I would never expect any of these shows to reveal anything completely new, that is not a television show’s purpose. They have a very low chance of discovering any new species (or rare species evidence/ sign), cryptid or not. That is through no fault of the television program’s crew though. All television shows are done in a format to create entertainment, not discover new species. That said, I do expect a show such as this to be very educational, while it also maintains high entertainment value. I really enjoy the show “River Monsters”. In my opinion, that program provides everything to look for in a history/natgeo/discovery type program. I hope this upcoming “Beast Hunter” show follows a similar vein: firsthand expeditions/adventure, that have a lot of educational content and still keep entertainment value.
Not saying the above to rag on people here, who do criticize such program’s for said reason. Just hoping future programs don’t get unfairly criticized for unrealistic expectations. Because that is what I imagined would be the first critique of the show after it is aired.
Side note: I wonder how he learned that Charles Fort was his great uncle?

By: Cryptidcrazy

I watched “Beast Hunter” last night and as disappointed as I was in the first 2 episodes, the Mokele-Mbembe episode was even worse. Pat seems a likable enough person and I believe his heart is in the right place, but there just isn’t enough real investigation. Too much of the show is dedicated to stuff that has nothing to do with finding cryptids. It’s more like watching a travel show. Nothing new is offered up about the cryptids being discussed. It’s the same re-hashed information and ideas.
I just don’t see how anyone can compare “Monsterquest” to “Beast Hunter”. “Monsterquest” was a true cryptozoological show and “Beast Hunter” is more like a travel show. There is still time for the show to get better and I hope it does. Maybe Pat could add a real investigative team to accompany him? Who knows? Until then, the show is losing my attention, fast.
