2013 Summary

And so, 2013 has nearly ended. It was an interesting year, in which a lot changed. The way I look at this blog has changed, and at the same time I have been making less posts. I just couldn't keep up with 12 posts a week anymore, however I still have my passion for anime, especially the good ones.

Having said that though, 2013 is the worst year for anime since the past decade, and I'm afraid that I need to say this. The big problem lied in the amount of series that aired. Every season had its gems, however when you look beyond these gems, that's where the problems lied: everything just looked the same, and there were lots of series that had potential, only to get bogged down by bad writing. This is the year I really realized that the way in which most anime are written is inherently flawed, with too few writers working on too many projects and people not really thinking about making anime whole conclusive stories that stay consistent. I've seen so many promising series this year that only ended up meh, when they could have been so much better, so it's really a shame to see this.

Crunchyroll Sets Return Dates for Ongoing Series

Not only is Japan between seasons now, but this is also a holiday break, which means that a lot of broadcasts are sidelined for specials.

Crunchyroll has now announced when ongoing series will be returning after the break:

TOY REVIEW: Figma 194

In 1990, Yoshihiro Togashi won the hearts of millions of fans all over the world with his best-selling manga (and later anime) YUYU HAKUSHO, an action-adventure epic featuring a spikey-haired protagonist with a mysterious past and a powerful father, an antisocial and vertically challenged assassin, an effeminate introvert with an affinity for whip-like weapons, and an unremarkable assisting character who ends up burying his nose in books and being left behind by the others. Less than a decade later, the famed mangaka created another bestselling series - HUNTER X HUNTER (pronounced without the "X"), an action-adventure epic featuring a spikey-haired protagonist with a mysterious past and a powerful father, an antisocial and vertically challenged assassin, an effeminate introvert with an affinity for whip-like weapons, and an unremarkable assisting character who ends up burying his nose in books and being left behind by the others.

Kuroko no Basket

Lately, I've been addicted to this manga and its anime. It began when I accidentally encounter Kuroko no Basket manga - or like the translation in my country, Kuroko's Basketball- in Gramedia book store. I enjoy playing basketball and was a part of basketball club in my college. Well, even though I'm hardly a good player since I only began to play basket in university. Ho ho ho. My dribble, pass and drive is bad but my shooting ability is terrible. My eyesight is awful and because I don't like to use my glasses when I playedbasketball, I end up almost always miss my shoot. By the way, I was feeling nostalgic when I saw this manga in book store. So nostalgic that I end up bought it. Moreover, I like Shonen Jump - I love lots of manga from there (One Piece, Bleach, D.Gray-Man, Naruto, Gintama, Hunter x Hunter, etc) - and I know that Kuroko no Basket is one of the series from Jump. I immediately falling in love with its protagonist, quickly watch its anime and love it to the point that it's almost obsessive. He he he.

Final Thoughts: Fall 2013

Final Thoughts Fall 2013

This has been an interesting season, to say the least. There were so many shows that started out so interesting, that half way through I just wanted to entirely drop. This isn't helped by the fact that the shows I did keep were almost all keep going past 12-13 episodes and there are another million show I am really interested in next season. Oh the problems of an anime fan, too many shows, not enough time or attention span. Yeah, yeah, I know, these are stupid problems. But really, let's get right into it. These are my final thoughts on the fall 2013 anime season.

As always, let's start with the shows that will continue into the next season.

12 Days of Anime Day 3: Grim x Dark

Hunter x Hunter is the show I wish I got to watch growing up on a morning block. Spoiler shots abound.I find it curious how Hunter x Hunter got to keep it's morning block (with plenty of kids watching mind you) as long as it did. In this last arc alone, well, here's a picspam of stuff we've been treated to since the Ant arc got started.

Anime Season Preview

As someone who doesn't always have tons of time to dedicate to watching anime, I usually welcome the Winter and Summer Seasons as they tend to be a little less overwhelming in terms of the sheer number and quality of series airing out there. Don't get me wrong, I love the wealth of riches Spring and Fall offer, but it's nice to have some downtime during the off-season to catch up on older shows I haven't had the chance to watch yet. The upcoming Winter season is already stacking up nicely- there are definitely a handful of of potential hits, and reading through some of the descriptions of these shows, quite a few stood out and caught my interest, so I'll be checking out the first few episodes of several to see how things shape up. With a handful of series continuing into their 2nd cour from the Fall, plus with a few I still haven't started, it's looking like I'll have my hands full.

Please note the following is not an exhaustive list of what is airing this January, but a look at some series that grabbed my attention. I generally watch the first 2-3 episodes of all the shows to get a feel for what will end up being my top tier, but here's a look at what I'm looking forward to and eagerly anticipating in January, 2014:

The 4 Character Shifts I've Made In Life As Seen On Hunter X Hunter

So I spent all afternoon last week on a Hunter X Hunter marathon. I last tasted the thrill of this anime a decade ago and I was glad the feeling didn't change a bit. I still favor Killua of all the other characters (his cunning and no-nonsense take on things still speak to me like that old fave shirt we all have). On the other hand, I have developed this newfound liking for Gon; the kid's persistence is something I will never have, thus, it's a wonder to me.

Unlike the Tagalog-dubbed mess I used to endure back then watching it on GMA7, I now have the luxury to watch Hunter X Hunter in HD and with no commercials in my lappy. I know I said the thrill is still there but little did I know I will be realizing something new after watching episode 104: Did the four characters just represent the 4 phases of my personal struggle to find myself?

Autumn 2013 Episode Rankings

Week 8! And we're back to a full 19 series; there's been surprisingly few gaps this season from series skipping a week, which always makes things easier, as well as giving me more to watch.

Bleach Chapter 560 Review: TEKKEN TACHIKAZE!!

Did Hisagi, Ikkaku and Yumechicka lose to this nigga in the last chapter? Is what I though in the beginning but now I know. As long as that little mini me is around this old, buff but light nigga. How is a person his size doing drop kicks. This dude bust be mad flexible. But what about Ikkaku and Hisagi wil;l we see them fight. All I wanted to see sense Kensei told Hisagi to show him his bankai is to see his motherfucking bankai. I fear that it may never happen. It may sound cliche or on some Naruto shit but now that its getting dark I hope everyone takes a brake for the night. I want to see Hisagi healed to fight again. If we don't see Hisagi's Bankai I will beat Kubo's ass. I'm not fucking playing. I will go to Japan and beat his ass until Kenpachi has to come and save him. And it was great to my nigga Kensei Muguruma beat the shit out Mask De Masculine. Kensei's bankai looked badass as usual. And it was nice of him to explain how his Bankai works. Tachikaze makes whatever it cuts explode but Tekken Tachikaze allows his fist to continuously cause explosions as long as he's touching you. That shit sounds painful as hell. I do not want to get hit with that. I wonder how many Naruto characters Kensei can take out with that. Enough of that. The next few Bleach chapters are going to be so damn epic. I can't wait until then. I'm done for now with this Bleach chapter. I gota go catch up to Kill La Kill and Hunter X Hunter 2011. See ya!

MOTHER KEEPER CHAPTER 39-41 REVIEW: CHAOS TIDE

I am kind of disappointed; it's a good thing these three chapters snuck on me because each of them was ridiculously short. But maybe i should be rejoicing that is still on gong. For a few months now i was convinced it had been cancelled, or gone on one of those indefinite hiatuses Hunter X Hunter is widely known for.

THE PLOT:>

Really ridiculous how little actually happened in these three chapters. But again, i shouldn't be complaining. When i last left off months back Lint had confronted Ricalna in the graveyard about his loyalty to Eden, aiming his gun at Ricalna's forehead. A terrorist attack had occurred shortly after.

12 Moments 2013

Mamoru Hosoda's film Wolf Children made its Japanese theatrical debut in 2012 but most people in the West, , likely saw it sometime this year - whether in a theater, on home video or through other means. I liked it when I saw it subtitled in San Francisco as part of the inaugural Japan Film Festival but haven't had a chance to re-watch it with the English dub.

Though there were a couple of moments from the film I could discuss, the one I want to highlight occurs fairly early.

TechSource: Best Android Apps for Anime Fans

Posted: 13 Dec 2013 06:52 PM PST Anime is hugely popular not only in Japan but all over the world. Animated character with big eyes and over-the-top mannerisms is perhaps the best way people characterize this Eastern sensation. However, there's more to anime than that. Anime, thanks to its engaging storylines, relatable characters, has made itself known not only to kids but to grown adults as well.

There are a lot of anime resources out there on the Internet. Unfortunately, to keep a tab at them is somewhat impossible if you are always on the move. That's where Android apps come in handy. These apps let you catch up with the latest anime news, reviews, gossips, and even episodes right on your smartphone or tablet computer. So, if you're looking for some Anime-based Android apps, read on as we cover some of the best ones.

Complete Series Review: Black Cat

Black Cat is an anime about a 23 year old young man named Train Heartnet who is known as the Black Cat because of his cat like reflexes and the fact that he likes to drink milk in the middle of the night on the roof of his apartment. He also feeds stray cats up there to. But he's apart of this organization called Chronos which the members carry out secret assassinations. Train uses a gun called Hades to kill his opponents. Train himself is heartless and cold. He one day meets a bounty hunter named Saya. Bounty Hunters in this series are called Sweepers. Saya's voice in the dub is great. When she sings she sounds so beautiful. The song she sings is just so perfect. Saya teaches Train how to love and value a human life.

On one of Train's missions he has to kill a little girl named Eve who is an artificial human and weapon. She is basically a created human girl with super human strength. I'm not going to spoil it and tell you what kind of powers she has because if you're reading it and have never seen it before than you have to watch. Especially the dub. Eve is very valuable because with her you are basically unstoppable. That is why Chronos sent Train to kill her. During this he meets a Sweeper named Sven who later on becomes a mentor to Train. Sven is able to stop Train from killing Eve. From this point on Eve starts to travel with Eve.

Characters that made my year

On this fourth day of Christmas we pay homage to the man whose crotch glows with an awesome power - Hisoka from Hunter x Hunter.

Hunter x Hunter is one of those rare shows that never seems to have a bad episode. This is all the more remarkable given the fact that this is a long-running shounen series, shows of that particular predigree are notorious for crap filler and pointless padding. Not so with Hunter x Hunter, it has been excellent this year and only continues to get better.

Hunter X Hunter 2011 Episode 109 Review:

All throughout this episode every one was putting the final touches on their plan and I was scared as hell. I know that the next episode shit will go down. Everyone is just thinking that we most likley will die inside of the palace. Know is so far gone that his hair turned white, his face is pale, and he's even skinnier. Knov has been reduced to fodder at this point. I'm surprised at Morel. I didn't think he would be this worried. And on top of that he's only at 35% of his real power. How the hell is he supposed to fight especially since Knov's bitch ass won't be helping. Knuckle and Shoot seem to be ready but what Shoot said about Killua is getting to me. He said that Killua seems happy and ready but its slowly deteriorating. This leads me into thinking that Killua might leave Gon in the middle of the fight or just give up completely. I don't want my nigga to die. Kill Knov ass instead. It doesn't matter how ready these guys are because in the middle of the battlefield anything is possibly. This is all I have for now. This was a pretty laid back chapter before things pick up fast, so I'm gonna stop here. Have a good day and watch anime. See ya!

Yosh! Now, I gonna tell you about HUNTER X HUNTER!

Blood Lad: Shonen Action Done Right

Blood Lad is the story of a vampire named Staz.He is an otaku that is obsessed with the human world, specifically Japan.Everything he knows about Japan he learned from watching anime, reading manga, and playing video games. One of his dreams is to meet a person from Japan.Lucky for Staz (unlucky for her), Fuyumi Yanagi somehow manages to accidentally cross over from the human world to the demon world.Staz rescues her from the gang of demons that are on the verge of eating her, he takes her back to his home and immediately starts grilling her about Japan. He gets called away briefly and when he returns he is shocked to find out that she has been eaten by a carnivorous plant in his absence. She becomes a ghost since she died in the demon world and Staz vows to resurrect her physical body and return her to normal.

What makes this show special is that it manages to take a lot of the elements that make fighting anime fun and exciting and condense them into ten solid, well-paced episodes. There is plenty of fanservice but it's not as excessive as similar shows. The characters are developed well for being such a brief series and the action scenes are short but intense.Brains Base (Penguindrum, Baccano!) provides the animation, everything is consistent from start to finish and the world they created is filled with many vibrant colors. If Blood Ladis on the TV you can't help but be drawn to it, it is very eye-catching.The music is well crafted also, it fits the mood of the show and gets your heart pumping when super powered demons are trading blows with one another. If you're a fan of shows like Dragon Ball Z, Hunter X Hunter, YuYu Hakusho, etc. then you definitely owe it to yourself to giver Blood Lad a shot.My only complaint is that another season has yet to be announced.

Autumn 2013 Episode Rankings

Week 5! We're almost at the time of the season when I look at my watching list, drop the series that's impressing me the least, and replace it with one of the many other new anime that didn't make my initial list for whatever reason. The problem is, I like all of the 18 shows I picked up this time! So instead, I'll be adding a 19th series starting next week, and won't drop anything. I don't know which series it'll be yet, but I have at least 12 to choose from, so hopefully one of them will leave a better impression on me second time around.

For now though, here's my rankings for the usual 18 series. A week of mostly lacklustre episodes, in my opinion

Dragon Ball Z, episodes 1-5

I guess the decision to watch Dragon Ball Z before I watched the first season (Dragon Ball) is quite weird. But I wanted to see whether or not it is possible to enjoy the series as a separate show. People say it is possible. Some say it is not. Well, here is my answer.

Even if you have never seen Dragon Ball or any other incarnation of the series, you probably know who he is. Goku.

Zola's Reflections

Great fanart by BakaMeko at

Yes. That's right. The series I want to talk about today is Konjiki no Gash!! aka Zatch Bell for the NA audience written by Raiku Makoto. For all those who know Gash but never took the chance to actually watch/read it, there's probably a lot of bad misconceptions about how childish it appears. Having been introduced to it by a friend a few years ago, I decided to give it a go after my first experience with the horrible dub. After watching 150 episdoes ish and then reading the manga which continued with the plot, Konjiki no Gash!! became my favourite Shounen series of all time.In a world filled with Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, Hunter x Hunter, Fairy Tail, etc , to me, Konjiki no Gash!! excels at what I value in a Shounen series and does it in such a way that I can't compare it to any of the other Shounen series.

Winter Season Preview

This season. It feels like a spring or autumn season is coming. Perhaps not a big one, but I'm surprised by the amount of solid titles that are coming out. There are quite a number of series I'm looking out for, plus also a few that already have the potential to become the best of the year unless the competition really ramps it up. We're in for an interesting season, that's the least. Unfortunately, there also are a lot of really bland series coming up. It's a season of extremes.

My Progress This Season

Well, I figure that my dear readers deserve to know how I have been occupying myself recently with anime, so I have decided to write a post on my general progress. Some older shows with which I have been dallying are Hunter x Hunter, a series of shorts named Sparrow's Hotel (completed in one evening), Majestic Prince, The Third: The Girl with the Blue Eye, Solty Rei, and Tower of Druaga: The Sword of Uruk.At last, I've almost finished with the original Hunter x Hunter, having just watched Kurapica's major battle with one of the Spiders gang.It was so pleasant to see the god-like and glorious victory over a certain murdering blackguard-whatever his name is-that I have difficulty putting my feelings to words.Sparrow's Hotel is a great comedy about a kunoichi working at a midsized hotel, which I heartily recommend to anyone needing a laugh.I'm still trying to finish off Majestic Prince, which has to be one of the greatest mech shows of recent years-I place it next to Code Geass. You might know that two of those last three shows figure on my top fifty list, and hence deserve their own posts.Tower of Druaga is a great fantasy, and the first episode alone, which parodies fantasy anime in a grand style, suffices to give it a large place in any otaku's heart.

But, now onto some brief descriptions of this season's shows.I still have to get around to Samurai Flamenco and Coppelion, but I expect to accomplish this soon.At any rate, my ability to keep up with new shows is much the highest since 2009.That says something about the quality of this season!

Updates & Some Chit Chats

My last update was in August! That's how time flies! In between August and October, loads of stuff had happened. I'm away from home most days of the week for work and some of my family members are facing health scares so much time was spent taking care/paying attention to them when I'm home. It's like I totally understand how sometimes people - even huge anime fans - would slipped behind a few months because there are so much things going on.

Sometimes, just sometimes, other things take precedence over hobbies.

Future of the Shounen Battle/Action/Adventure Genre

I'm sure by now, most of you are familiar with this subsection of anime and manga. I know that shounen is a demographic which is aimed at boys, but over here in the United States it is often inadvertently identified as a genre for a large list of series which share similar characteristics. I tend to usually identify these series as Jump series since most of the titles people readily identify as shounen come from Jump, but in this article I'm going to have to broaden my explanation as their are other series such as Fairy Tail outside of that magazine that use the same formula. Typically, I would tend to define these series as being an action adventure series or a battle manga, but for the sake of this article, I'm going to be politically incorrect and classify these series as just "shounen" so everyone knows what I am talking about.

Now on to the content of this article. What is the future of shounen manga and anime? When most of us (at least in the United States) think of the classic anime that have withstood the test of time, most of them were in fact the battle shounens. When most people are asked what anime are considered "classics" or "must sees" many, if not all of these lists will include series such as: Dragon Ball, Hokuto no Ken, Saint Seiya,, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Rurouni Kenshin (I know that there are other technical shounen series such as Slam Dunk, but I'm focusing on the subsection like Dragon Ball that the American audience readily identifies as shounen).

During the summer of 2012 a brand new indoor theme park opened up at Sunshine City in Ikebukuro Tokyo. It looks like Bandai/Namco run this property that is all about the Weekly Shonen Jump characters that have helped make anime and manga famous around the world.

Major attractions include themed areas with rides/activities forOne Piece, Naruto, and Dragonball.Entrance is 1300 yen for adults and 1000 yen for children at opening and some rides look like they cost extra.I haven't been there myself, but might pop in for a look see the next time I'm in town. This amusement park occupies the third floor of the Import Mart building there and here is just a brief rundown on the various attractions.

Otaku post

Hello readers, today I'm talking about anime (animated cartoons) :D, I really like it this animated series because the history of them are very freaky, funniest and some of them have a big argument behind. This passion rise when I was a little kid and I spent all my time watching the Tv Show "El club de los tigritos" (after call "Invasion"). In this Tv show I watch anime like "Doraemon", "Digimon", "Pokemon", "Slam Dunk", "Shaman King", "Hunter x Hunter", "Evangelion", etc... That was really nice time because I watch all this series after school... I'ts was a kind of relax formula.

Until this days I'm still watching anime on internet. On this days I'm watching Hunter x Hunter, one of my favorite, his argument is about a child (Gon) seeking his father (Ging) and on his way he meets 3 best friends (Killua, Kurapica and Leorio) that support him to get through different challenges. This anime like me a lot because tack about friendship and the will to make things happens. In few words, is about the determination to getting success in something that you really want. I think similar animated series are Shaman King, Doraemon, Digimon and Pokemon. In all of these, the implicit argument is "go out and make some friends, because they will help you in the future".. and that is a nice advice. As you see it, I like a lot the anime related to friendship.

I must say that given the desire Sasuke

Small opinions of my otaku randomness about Summer 2013 Anime(s)

Sorry guys for more than 1 week no blogging, my internet connection was suck lately. TToTT

Ok, let's start!

Knowing the animes for this summer have already ended, i feel regret yet feel grateful too! Regretting that my beloved series end too fast, just 11 till 13 episodes, when I want them be 24 till 26 episodes or even more. Nevertheless, many anticipated last season animes will be continuing as well, like Magi -The Kingdom of Magic-, Kuroko no Basket, and Valvrave the Liberator. I watched those three so I'm hyped waiting!!! I also intend to watched Super Seishun Brothers and pupa. Just those 2 new titles that catch my heart. Here, I share what I feel for reminding myself for ever watching and loving Summer 2013 Animes (because I have a very accute short-term memory, I guess --a). And also, I rethink again for fast-reviewing the summer animes first before I ever telling people about next anime(s).

ETHNOGRAPHIC TRAVEL BLOG: QUESTIONS FOR A MANGA FAN IN JAPAN

1. I'VE SEEN NEGATIVE CONNOTATIONS OF BEING AN OTAKU IN JAPAN IN ANIME, ON HOW THEY ARE PORTRAYED AS FRIEND-LESS AND CREEPY RECLUSES HUNCHED OVER THEIR COMPUTERS TRYING TO WIN THE LOVE OF A 2D GIRL IN A DATING SIM, AND THEN SETTLING DOWN TOMARRY BODY-PILLOWS. I'M KIND OF AFRAID THAT IF I ANNOUNCE THAT I'M A MANGA FAN, THEY'LL TREAT ME LIKE THOSE STEREOTYPES IN ANIME. HOW ARE MANGA FANS VIEWED AND TREATED IN JAPAN?

Anime Girls I'd F**k Book: Page 3

Haru - Mushibugyo

Just look at her boobs. Them some big ass tities. Haru's a sweet and nice girl so imagine all the dirty things I could do to her. I could tie her up and just plow the mess out of her. Then I'd just massage her breast and lick all over them. I can suck on those breast for days. I'll get all the calcium I need.

Autumn 2013 Kaleidoscope

I'll try to post these entries on Sunday Evening. They're just a collection of impressions about the series I watched that I didn't blog. No rankings, no systems, just raw impressions and opinions. Enjoy.

HUNTER X HUNTER 96 - 99: Hunter X Hunter reached another one of its annoying phases again. The context of these four episodes was wonderful. I love what the creators are trying to do here in the big picture. The inrigues that come from all kinds of sides, some characters being really careful in their approaches in order to win. Great. But what happened in these four episodes was completely inconsequential in which the named cast just one-sidedly takes down a bunch of ants with weird powers. The part with the spiders was fine: it actually showed lots of new things about them, and gave them much appreciated depth, and the ants they took down were ants we know. However, Gon's battle against that snake, bat and was really annoying to sit through and just served to kill some time. Not to mention that that fight just made no sense and it was way too overcomplicated for its own good.

Autumn 2013 Episode Rankings

It's Autumn! The last season of 2013, which on the whole has been a great year for anime! Will anything this season leave as much of an impression as Attack on Titan? Only time will tell

Narrowing down so many new series to just sixteen (plus the ever-present SPACE BROTHERS and HUNTER X HUNTER) was difficult, and the list I present to you here bears almost no resemblance to the ones I scribbled down pre-season with only synopses and trailers to go by, but hopefully none of them will disappoint. And if they do, I'll just drop them mid-season, maybe in favour of Pupa (if it eventually airs).

My Thoughts About: Magi The Labyrinth of Magic

I just finished watching this awesome anime series yesterday and I can't really properly say how much I enjoyed it! It's been a while since I was able to find an anime that I marathon-ed within two days just to finish. Magi is a story about the adventures of two friends, Aladdin and Alibaba. I love that the series shows the importance of unconditionalfriendship and unfaltering loyalty. The story tells us the many destinies changed and created by the bonds formed by these two. Although the story offers excitement and sometimes laughter to people, it also has its own fair share of darkness caused by poverty and injustice that is being experienced by people from different countries. This anime reminded me so much of various anime series that I grew up watching and loving like Hunter X Hunter, Fairy Tail and a bit of Shingeki no Kyojin.

Aladdin and Alibaba's friendship reminded me so much of Gon and Killua's from HxH. They travel together in their many adventures and depended on each other while facing obstacles on their travels. In my opinion, Aladdin is very similar to Gon especially their kindness and naivety. They both appear as their partners' strength and guide in times of confusion and weakness. Although Alibaba's a bit different from Killua's personality, they are similar in the sense of wanting to protect and be with their friend. Also, the constant use of fire and ice magic reminded me so much of Fairy Tail. Judal, one of the magi(s), appeared a lot similar to Fairy Tail's Gray Fullbuster and Midnight. Judal is the one in the far left, Midnght is the one in the middle and Gray is in the far right. They kinda look similar, ne?

On choosing and continuing anime series

I watch a lot of anime. Not as much as those people who marathon late into the night, but a good amount. After a while, you come across the problem of, do I continue to watch this? There are different ways to deal with this. Asking it in the beginning of a series, some people have a 3 episode rule, always watching the first 3 before deciding. Another is to watch the first episode, and see if theres anything you like. Often this is combined with the 3 rule. Some watch the whole series regardless, because it bothers them not to finish, or they keep saying, but it could get good. Its often a good idea to look at the review if you are in doubt. Usually the majority can tell you if its worth watching or not. But sometimes stuff you'd really like is specific to you, and most people dont think its spectacular. For me that was shows like school rumble, where I'd be laughing uncontrollably at it almost every episode. But it doesnt seem to be that way for some people. Ultimately only you know whether you'd enjoy it. Pacing is important. Some shows change pace as they catch up to their manga source. Like one piece now is 1 episode= 1 chapter. Hunter X Hunter is still at 2-3 chapters an episode. Slower can mean more in depth, more often meaning drawn out scenes, which sometimes have a bit more detail to them since the timeslot has to be filled.

Hoarding anime you are going to watch, is it a good idea? I used to think so, afraid I'd forget. But time passes, and as you go through the list sometimes you don't care about what you did before. And it gets huge. I used to have to scrap my list every year because itd get too large. Now I realize it was just a thing to give me false security that I'd remember to watch it later. If you really want to see it, I feel you'll remember. Watching anime, do you do other things at the same time? I used to, but then it was harder to judge if I really wanted to see the series or not. So now I make it full screen, and unless I have a good reason for moving to another thing, I have to scrap the series if I close the window. If I find it too boring, I throw it in a bookmark folder called revive?, and give it time. If I forget about it, then its gone.

Fall 2013: Strike the Blood

I don't know why, with a title like Strike the Blood, that I didn't think that this show would be about vampires. At first glance, the world seems like it's completely normal. But once you get about seven minutes in, you realize that magic and demons area natural part of the world, as a PA system announces that an abnormal magical surge has been detected. To top that all off, something called the Fourth Progenitor is coming.

Really trying to commit...

I'll be returning to the States to start school in two day. Since I'm all packed, I think I should just make a quick update.

As of now, I'm sampling some Anime's. Generally watching 2-3 episodes, then deciding on which ones to continue watching. I went on an Anime watching hiatus for the past 2 years. Only recently found out there was a new Hunter x Hunter series, and started watching it.

The "My Doctor" theory/ trope: a blog entry on Weekly Shounen Jump manga

I mentioned in my last blog entry (The Wonder Woman special), something I described as "The "My" Doctor trope". Basically, to clarify, the trope refers to the point in a series where somebody really gets into it, or where a series has various versions (for example Dr. Who and each individual Doctor being someone's "My Doctor", hence the trope name).

My next few blog entries will be variants on this theme. In this blog entry I will be looking at some of the Shounen Jump manga I have read, regardless of if I still like them or NOT cough Naruto and Bleach cough. This is about the points at which I began to love them.

2013.10.02

I couldn't sleep so I'll blog a bit on some significant events today.

I finally returned to Kickboxing after almost a month of laziness. Haha. I am more determined to lose weight this time! Tomorrow, we have badminton again so that makes it 4 badminton sessions and 1 kickboxing session in a week. That's as active as I can get.

Overview of the past Half Year

Inspiration can both be a blessing, and a curse. It's awesome to have, but often likes to strike at the most inconvenient moments. So hereby I present a list of my impressions of the series of the past half year. I've been feeling guilty for a while knowing that I can't write a full review for all of them, so hereby an overview, in order of how much I like them. With the ones that I finished I included their final rating. Also enjoy the big pictures.

And yes this is about the past half year. As in, the most recent six month, otherwise known as the series that aired in the spring and summer season. Not the winter season. Just the past six months.

Final Thoughts: Summer 2013

Final Thoughts: Summer 2013 Anime Season

A new anime season is upon us, and that means it is time to look back at the season we must leave. And what a season it was. There was some gold this season, some shows that I am really disappointed that we will have to leave, and some stuff I don't mind forgetting about. Next season might be a mystery, but let's first look at the shows that I will be continuing to watch into the fall anime season.

#NowWatching: Anime Series

Because I promised myself to watch anime more regularly, I will be posting the ones I am watching on a monthly basis - also so that I can keep track of the ones I've finished, just for the hell of it. For this month, I only started on 3 - all of which are ongoing so I cannot tag them as complete just yet.

These are not anime reviews, so don't expect me to talk about each anime in detail.

Summer 2013 Episode Rankings

After giving it some thought, I arrived at the same conclusion that I did over the last few seasons - this will be the final Summer episode rankings post. While over half of what I'm watching will be airing for a 13th week, I feel that losing five series from the usual lineup is enough to justify ending it here. That, and next week will overlap with the start of the new season, so I'll probably be otherwise occupied.

As ever, if anyone wants to know my final thoughts on any of the series that are going on for 13 episodes, feel free to ask in the comments and I'll get back to you when I've finished them.

Uchuu Kyoudai

The past four episodes: character-development. It's slow and steady, but definitely there, and in all kinds of forms. Mutta changed and finally realized his strengths, gaining lots of confidence from it, and also becoming mature enough to forgive his former employer that he gave the Zidane, Sharon's condition subtly gets worse, the chief of Nasa gets some unexpected background (also I love that small scene of a young Deneil Young). And whoa, Hibito actually left with a big post-traumatic stress disorder after what happened on the moon.

I like that recently, the series has at least remembered to be varied: a few months ago I remember complaining that the arcs take too long, and that the series got too monotone. This arc again solves this by focusing on many things at the same time, so that we're not just stuck with just one scenario. It's still nowhere near the levels of the first 40 episodes, but I can't deny that these events really pushed the characters further.

Summer 2013 Episode Rankings

Not late, by some miracle or other! I'm so shocked, I can't think of anything to write here! *that excuse never gets old~*

A couple of things worth mentioning though: firstly, no this week (not too surprising by this point), and secondly, series are starting to end! Just one this week, and by the looks of things not a lot are finishing at 12 episodes either, so these rankings may go on for a rare 13th week!

Hunter X Hunter : Phantom Rouge (2013) Review

This was not really an exciting movie for me overall. Hunter X Hunter is one of the best anime series of all time. Well, for me that is. But I am pretty sure it ranks high up on the best anime list.

It has been quite a long time since I saw a good episode or movie of it. The best fight in the series was when Killua's dad and grandfather were ordered to assassinate the head of the Phantom Troupe, but was cut short because orders were changed. That was a pretty good fight indeed.

One Piece: Film Z

HI GUYS! REMEMBER THOSE MOVIES I MENTIONED I WOULD BE LOOKING FORWARD TO IN ONE OF MY OLDER POSTS? WELL I'VE SEEN ALMOST ALL OF THEM AND BOY DO I HAVE A FEW THINGS TO SAY ABOUT THEM! I'LL BEGOING THROUGH THEM IN ORDER OF WHEN I SAW EACH FILM SO FIRST IS ONE PIECE, SECOND HUNTER X HUNTER, THIRD BLUE EXORCIST AND LAST WILL BE INDEX WHEN I ACTUALLY SEE IT. SO WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, LETS GET STARTED!

I'll be honest, I didn't expect myself to be seeing this film as early as I did, though part of me wishes that I hadn't due to the downright shitty video quality, but I'll get on that in a bit. Really the big questions are these: Is Film Z a good movie and does it Surpass Strong World?

Hunter x Hunter Phantom Rouge

You know, when I was reflecting on the movies I was looking forward to seeing, I told this to myself "No matter what One Piece did, Hunter would probably top it somehow" Heck, I thought this was going to be the best one out of the four...and yet it wound up being my least favorite film out of the four.

As with last time, I'm assuming most of you have seen the movie already as well as have an Idea as to what Hunter X Hunter is, but I will give you a basic synopsis: It's every fangirl's fanfic ever-made Kurapika's lost his eyes to a friend that's supposed to be a dead Kurata tribe member and Gon and Killua head out to figure who took them and get them back.

Anime.

Woots. Anime! I found this on tumblr which I think it would be fun to do. But yet, I am not very active over at tumblr, so why not just do it here. And instead of going by the days, I should just do one-shot (since I don't know how to answer some of them). Here goes!

1: Very first anime you watched.Well, if you count Pokemon as an anime, then I guess I have been watching it since 5? Pokemon, Digimon, Yugi-oh, Beyblade you name it. (During that era) But the very famous shounen first anime (not-so-kiddy one) that I watched would be bleach, in the year 2005. THAT'S PRETTY LONG AGO...

2: Favourite anime you've watched so far.SO HARD TO ANSWER THIS ONE. But there's one period I fell in love with Fairytail. Though I didn't know when I stopped following the anime (cause I was wayyyyyy ahead from reading the manga) it became kind of boring to me. Hence, no longer much of a favourite. :P

5 14!!! BEWARE!!! SOME SERIOUS FANGIRLING AHEAD!!! (Arashi's anniversary!!!)

Alright!!!

After confirming I wasn't the only one confused about the real date of Friendship and Love Day because of the mixed signals sent by the media (see related post ), I feel so much more motivated to write something else!!! And yes, it will involve fangirling!!! So sit down and enjoy my fangirl moment (you are allowed to laugh at me or puke if I get too kimochi warui for your taste). Just imagine I look like this right now:

Fairy Tail and My Tendency to Avoid Long Series

As you know, my dear readers, I like catharsis in an anime.Somehow catharsis has come to mean a kind of purgation of feeling which is supposed to follow upon watching drama; yet, Aristotle originally meant to mean conciseness in a story, as my Greek professor in college, Dr. Joseph Garnjobst, avers. One of the surest ways for a series to lack catharsis is for it to stretch on and on.Series longer than 27 episodes usually lose focus and contain plenty of filler episodes, which cause me to become annoyed and ofttimes drop the series altogether. For example, without a friend of mine's rabid love of D. Gray Man, I probably would have been fed up with the overdramatization which occurs around episode 60 and left off there. In the case of the original Hunter x Hunter, I have less than ten episodes to go, but have somehow not found the opportunity to just sit down and finish off the show.

ANIME AND MANGA THIS WEEK- 15/09/2013

Another week has come and gone anime and manga and what is chronicled below are the series, anime and manga that i came across in these seven days and what i thought of them. Feel free to tell us about your week in anime and manga, how far you have gone in whatever series you follow and so on. I for one would like to know what to avoid or pursue.

ANIME---KAMISAMA NO INAI NICHIYOUBI- This is the best anime i have watched this week. The story follows a world where people no longer die. Sure you can kill them, but once dead they revive as the undead, not zombies i might add, simply not dead. As one of the characters, the awesome Humpnie Herbert said, all blowing off their heads and limbs does is make them immobile.

Think Torchwood, which i don't watch but heard that they did a similar story line. Grave keepers are beings with special shovels. They are the only ones capable of giving the dead 'peace'; in other words an undead buried by a grave keeper finally finds rest. The conflicts arise from those that wish for death, despising themselves, and those that accept freely given immortality and hence seeking to murder the basically innocent emotionless grave keepers.

It's weekly rambling time again. News, commentary on stuff I'm watching, and other random stuff, it's all here. And again, "kin'youbi" is Japanese for Friday. So, some time ago, the following picture made its way around Tumblr:

Re-introduction and notice that this blog will now be used for school purposes.

Hi, as you may know, I abandoned this blog long time ago but I am taking an online class right now and it requires me to have a blog - so guess what, I am picking up and writing on this blog again.

I will be posting homework here. Homework will mostly be responses to the readings assigned to us each week.

Shipping: Gon x Killua (Hunter x Hunter)

Have I ever mentioned how I'm a fujoshi on the inside?

Many people have told that they like Hunter x Hunter. This is great to hear because HxH is awesome. Unfortunately, these same people tell me that they like the show because it is a "subversive" and "intelligent" shonen and frequently cite the Yorkshin arc as the best arc.

Summer 2013 Episode Rankings

These weekly rankings posts are getting later and later~ I was away over the bank holiday weekend, though, in a strange land without internet! Since getting back about 6 hours ago, I've already caught up with my emails and Facebook status updates, and have made a small dent in my Youtube video backlog. Catching up with almost a week's worth of anime may take a bit longer, however. Still, I have no other plans for the next few weeks, so hopefully I'll catch up soon and stay caught up.

Anyway, enough about me, more about anime! No again this week, and I'm not waiting for it this time. I just hope it hasn't gotten cancelled, as it so often jokes about!

Summer 2013 Episode Rankings

It was HUNTER X HUNTER and SPACE BROTHERS' turn to skip a week this time, but as usual I'm pretending that didn't happen, or else my weekly rankings would be full of gaps and inconsistent numbering. At least both episodes were worth the wait, and having two less to watch after a weekend away without internet made catching up that little bit easier.

Attack on Titan's pace might have slowed noticeably, but as long as the thrilling cliffhangers keep coming, it'll keep scoring highly!1 -(1)

My Favoite 30 Anime of All Time

So I was skimming a few anime blogs and decided to read their favorite 10, or 20, or 30 anime series of all time. I got to thinking about what I would consider my top however many anime series. So I decided to make a list. I am making some rules to this list. It has to be on my completed list on myanimelist.com. You can find my list here, . I will also include any series that I want on the favorites list that are more than 50 episodes and still running. I will also exclude movies and live action stuff. So here it is, my top 30 favorite anime of all time, until something better comes along. Note: much of this list will probably change depending on how I am feeling from day to day. Many series could easily just swap places with one another. Also there will probably be spoilers. But enough of that, onto the list!

30. Shrine of the Morning Mist: I first saw this series when I watched anime OnDemand. And it was weird. Magical shrine girls fighting against an age old curse to save the main heroines crush, who is also her cousin. And I think their grandmother is an immortal cat. But when I looked past the weirdness I saw surprisingly fun characters that grew with the series, and it was also just funny. For like a third of the series the girls think that the love interest is actually having a torrid affair with another male classmate, and the way they go about it is honestly funny. And the villains are so sympathetic, I think they became some of my favorite characters in the series. It is a bit of a guilty pleasure, as the incest romance makes thing awkward at the best of times, but still, it has its high moments and just makes me smile.

Scotland Loves Animation 2013 Festival Line-Up

On the day that , I report about this year's takes place in GLASGOW (OCTOBER 11TH-13TH) and EDINBURGH (OCTOBER 14TH-20TH). If the former bit of news is sad for the loss tat the film and anime world will suffer then the line-up offers positivity because these titles have so much imagination and originality that, even with the Miyazaki-sized hole in anime, great works will still be made.

The line-up features a lot of the biggest anime films released in Japan over the last two years. There are some genuinely lovely surprises like Fuse: A Gun Girl's Detective Story, Garden of Words, and Gusko Budori and some great surprises like Hal and Patema Inverted. Some of these films already have UK distribution deals and some are classics that are getting re-released.

10 Notable Waltzes in Anime

It wouldn't be inaccurate to say that waltzes are the pop-music of the Classical genre (the dance music before Dance music!). There's something about them that effortlessly catches the ear and makes them easy to like. Maybe it's the soaring melodies or the trademark OOM-pah-pah, but a waltz done well has a characteristic sensation of movement that's addicting and catchy. And given anime music's proclivities when it comes to incorporating diverse genres in its body, waltzes pop up too. The ten tracks below (in no particular order of preference) are selections that have especially stuck out to me throughout the anime I've watched and the soundtracks I've listened to and are definitely worth sharing.

The first waltz hails from an unexpected source - original mecha anime Mazinger Z. If you were to attempt to characterize oversized machines beating each other up with a piece of music, this piece wouldn't be too far off. Extravagantly grandiose, the music immediately smacks you upside the head with a powerful fanfare. A fearless melody is quickly picked up by the strings as they are peppered relentlessly by bursts of bombast from the percussion and brass. The battle ends in a crashing finale as the waltz draws out an overly theatrical ending. Excessively affected in every way, "God Scrander's" enthusiasm is a great track to start off this particular listening exercise.

In Short: Best Summer Since 2007?

FROM MY EXPERIENCE I'VE FOUND THAT THE SUMMER ANIME SEASON CAN BE DREADFUL. THE LAST GREAT SUMMER WE HAD WAS , WHERE MONONOKE, BACCANO!, SZS AND MANY OTHERS THAT ARE STILL DISCUSSED TODAY WERE AIRING. WE'RE ABOUT 5 WEEKS INTO SUMMER 2013, POSSIBLY THE BEST SUMMER WE'VE HAD SINCE 2007. HERE ARE MY IMPRESSIONS, IN SHORT:

Underrated Anime Series: Yu Yu Hakusho

When I look at that picture I get mixed feelings. I'm happy because I love this series, its my favorite anime. I'm sad because its been done for the last 18 years. And then I feel enjoyment because I love this sereis and nothing will ever beat it. Not Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, or Hunter X Hunter. Even though I love Hunter X Hunter. Togashi has two of the greatest series in the last 18 years. But enough about me praising the series, its time to get down to business. Oh and Yu Yu Hakusho is better than Dragon Ball Z. If you don't think so we can talk about it. Find me on Twitter at @TyieheTheTyrant, comment below, and Facebook at Tyrone Dismuke.

The reason this is an underrated series is because people rarely talk about. The people that really talk about it are huge fans of the anime. People who just saw or read it saw its good but they never really got into it. Which is sad because it had a lot to offer. Dragon Ball Z totally over shadowed this series with its long 2 episode standoffs. The anime had better animation, one of the greatest English dubs ever, better fights, when they did fight it actually meant something than just fighting to get stronger or because its for the Earth, and it had far better characters. The only person who had character development in DBZ was Vegeta. Everyone else either stayed the same or were never seen again like Tien and Launch. But let me get off this topic because I'm thinking about talking about DBZ later.

Genkina hito's Autumn 2013 Anime Selection Part 1

If I had to describe anime in one word it would be diverse. The large numbers of titles released every season contain a highly varied number of concepts. Some of them may be sequels or plumb familiar themes and settings but there is usually something to set them apart and make them unique. It's all down to the efficient production model the Japanese entertainment industry uses where any manga/light novels gets treated to a multi-format adaptation. In recent years we have slowly edged out of a trough of moe into some more sophisticated titles that can be described as post-modern or meta-narratives with interesting characters. Compared to anime alone (not including films or dorama), western television is absolutely unimaginative. Diversity best sums up what's on offer with the Autumn 2013 Season.

I finished the last week Tuesday while listening to the soundtrack to Hana and Alice non-stop. It took a while (hours) what with checking the autumn 2013 anime season guide (on the right) and looking up things on / and news reports I do for AUKN. The and seasons had a large number of titles but the autumn one blows them all away with over forty. There are some sequels and a lot of manga/LN adaptations but after a disappointing summer season (the only stand-out anime was the incredible ) I felt energised by the variety and imagination on offer with the autumn season which starts September/October. Here are my selections:

Chic Pixel Plus: Episode 5

Podcast was super effective! Okay, that was the dumbest joke in the book, but this wouldn't be Chic Pixel if I didn't throw in some bad puns or blatant video game references, right? Besides, I've always wanted to type "a wild husband appears!" But I'm not just typing it - he really did! That's right, I finagled my benevolent husband Shaun to podcast with me this week (well, nearly two weeks ago now, but who's keeping track)!

Hunter x Hunter: Phantom Rouge

You expected the Phantom Troupe in a Phantom Troupe movie? Hah! Too bad!

Well, now this was underwhelming. Not that I had any high hopes for this in the first place after the countless bad Yahoo.jp reviews but still. I expected little, I got nothing. Heck, I didn't even get what they had promised. Kurapika? The spiders? The first one was spending most of the runtime in bed and among the latter, only two of them made an appearance at the forty minutes mark, one of them for about 5 minutes, the other one for a single minute. Six of them also showed up at the last minute to save the day and then left. Providing some fanservice for the crowds who thought this was a movie heavily featuring them, eh?

Okay, so I just caught up to Hunter X Hunter, episode 91. Overall at this point when I'm behind on so many series, it just isn't practical to do monthly summaries anymore. That would be way too confusing and I'll only do them again when I'm reasonably up to date with everything. However, I do have an opinion of this series that I want to voice, because this show still continues to work my patience. This frustration was at its highest at episode 90, and thankfully episode 91 made it a bit less.

Summer 2013 Episode Rankings

FREE! didn't air last week, but as I did with Kitakubu a couple of posts ago, I'll just pretend there wasn't a gap and throw ep 5 in with the others. I was a week behind on it anyway, and it's one of the few series I haven't commented on since the start of the season - something I'll put right in this post!

No complaints about lack of action in this week's Shingeki no Kyojin!1 -

TRIGUN ANIME REVIEW: OLD, IMPRESSIVE...

I have to say i am surprised by how much i loved this series. I was skeptical at first because of how OLD Trigun is. I was drawn to it because it is the first anime i have ever seen take place in an old western setting. Plus i rarely watch anime about action heroes that use guns to execute impressive feats.

I was surprised by the quality of this show, certainly i can see why many that watched in its time rate it so highly. Someone should reanimate this show.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes, episodes 3 and 4. Next, Dragon Ball Z

Also known as Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu

After watching 4 episodes of Legend of the Galactic Heroes I think I can see why people like it a little more clearly.

Deconstructing this very website: In an attempt to pander to my female audience (hah!) for once, I decided not to resort to a barely clothed anime girl for this article's cover image or whatever people like to call that stuff.

Also, I'd like to have a slice of life anime with these guys. And Morishige as Kizami's little brother. FUN!

One Piece, up to the episode 3. Next is Legend of the Galactic Heroes.

I know, comparing to what One Piece has to offer I watched nothing. Three episodes, all they did was introducing three characters, one of them is a side kick. So, I basically have no right to judge this anime.

But I will ^^

Summer 2013 Set Menu

*GASP!* Choices, choices!

Is it just me, or are there a crap-ton of interesting shows this summer? I don't think my menu has had this many entries in a single season for, well, ever. I thought I was doing pretty good clearing out my watching list with the close of the spring, but then I started trying out summer shows and found myself loathe to drop any of them. Most of them were an immediate "Yes" after just one episode, but we'll see how many are still around midway through the season.

License Request Day

I was reminded after Kodansha's recent licenses at San Diego Comic Con (I'll have a post on them later) that they had both been on my last major pile. So, since I've used those requests up for the most part, let's take a look back at the bestseller charts. June 2013, to be precise.

I'm looking at the Top 50, which has 32 distinct titles on it (some titles have multiple volumes). 20 of these 32 are licensed, which shows you how "Company X never licenses the really popular stuff!" isn't true. So, already off the list are: One Piece, Naruto, Hunter x Hunter, Kimi ni Todoke, Attack on Titan, Blue Exorcist, Yotsuba&!, Bleach, Detective Conan, Black Butler, Real, Magi, Natsume's Book of Friends, Fairy Tail, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Toriko, Vagabond. Inu x Boku SS, Say "I Love You", and Drifters. Even if one of those is only as of yesterday. :)

The Films I'll Likely See at JFFSF 2013

I've been to New People Cinema (formerly Viz Cinema) of since it opened 4 years ago but not in a film festival setting like there will be when the inaugural kicks off in later this month in conjunction with the 5th annual in Japantown.

The theatre in the New People Center has been a venue for recent film festivals including the , , and the (New People was the festival hub) but I believe this is the first time it is solely hosting such an event.

A TV Show

Hello classmates. Today I'm going to write about a TV show I watched as a child.

As a little Asian girl (haha), I used to see several anime (Japanese animation) series in Hong Kong, such as Sailor Moon, Shin Chan, Wedding Peach, and Dragon Ball.I think the most important anime for me was Sailor Moon, because it marked a stage of my childhood. In fact, I still enjoy watching some scenes in Youtube, hearing its music, and contemplate the original drawings.

Final Thoughts: Spring 2013

Final Thoughts: Spring 2013As the spring anime season ends, I remind myself that I started this little thing just about two years ago. And I think I have improved. Not by a lot mind you, I still have a lot to learn, a lot of experience to acclimate, but still, I think I am better than I was two years ago. And hopefully I will continue to improve, continue to grow and evolve into the future. But enough about what is to come, let's look at the recent past. These are my final thoughts on the spring anime season. But first, let's look at the shows that I will continue to watch into the next season.

Cardfight!! Vangaurd- Link Joker-hen: This season is going strong and has finally introduced the titular season hook, Link Joker. Link Joker is a new clan in the card game and has a new ability that will really shake up the game. But this is about the anime, and Link Joker is doing something kind of cool in the anime. Link Joker is the clan of the series overall background villain, a sort of nebulous darkness that likes to destroy worlds. The plot seems to be that the villains will spread their clan throughout our world by defeating players and forcing them to play with the Link Joker clan. I like it, it is very different then what Cardfight usually does, though I am willing to bet that it will end in a tournament. Still, I look forward to more cardfighting, which is really awkward to say every time.

Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince- Majestic Prince is a strange show at times. At times a series about the intricacies of war, how you need a mascot for support back home and how when that mascot is your best squadron how it interferes with their performance, at other times a show talking about the incompetency of officers who have never seen real combat, and other times a series about five idiots trying to single handedly fight a war. Oh, and fan service. But seriously this show is really interesting. I want to see how the characters grow, how they form new relationships, and how they will end a war that is considered a harvest by the villains. This is a good show and I am very happy it is getting 13 or so more episodes.

One Piece, episode 1. I start to understand why people like it.

In my series of posts that I named "Take a peek" I watch 3-5 episodes of the biggest and most promising shows out there to form some sort of opinion. Well, that was the idea. This time I do one of the most famous and one of the longest anime series out here - One Piece.

As any anime fan I see stuff related to One Piece very-very often. Ever since I started talking on anime forums I have been seeing One Piece fanart, discussions and arguments about One Piece, how it is better or not than other shonen biggies. And to be honest, at the time I did not understand why people even like it. Art style of One Piece, when I was seeing it on static pictures, used to not impress me at all. And I used to find the character designs being anything, but in my taste. Not to mention that the all the villains look comical.

Anime // What to watch this summer

If you're looking for some new anime to watch during the summer I have a couple of recomendations that you might just like. Here is a list of a couple of recent anime that i've watched that I think are a MUST see. There's something for every taste so I hope this list comes in handy. ^^

[1] ATTACK ON TITAN // 2013 - ONGOING

One hundred years prior to the beginning of the story, giant humanoid creatures called Titans ( Kyojin) have forced humanity to devolve to a medieval level of technology and to retreat into a system of concentric Walls known as Wall Maria, Wall Rose, and Wall Sina. The series follows the story of Eren Jaeger, his adopted sister Mikasa Ackerman, and their friend Armin Arlert. After the outermost wall falls and Eren's mother dies in the resulting destruction, he vows revenge against the Titans and later enlists in the military, followed by his friends. Years later, during his first battle against the Titans, he discovers that he has the ability to transform into a Titan at will. Seen as a threat to mankind by some, and as a ray of hope by others, Eren joins his companions in a desperate fight to protect what remains of their society, while looking for answers to the mysteries surrounding the Titans, the Walls, and his newfound power as well.

Spring 2013 Anime Roundup

As a whole, Spring 2013 was a nod towards the old school. None of the titles captured the best of their respective genres - this will probably be remembered mostly as a spring season of mediocrity across the board - but the pleasant throwbacks to older times made each series pretty worthwhile for the hardcore anime fan. As usual, we got a lot of variety to pick from.

I'll start off by singling out the titles I think everyone should watch, my own opinions of quality aside. I like anime, so I try not to be too harsh on it, but if you're not hardcore about it and you don't have the time to consume as much anime as I do, I wouldn't say there was much released recently that is worth keeping up with in the scheme of things.

Hunter x Hunter (2011) Episode 88

TITLE: Hunter x Hunter (2011)

DESCRIPTION: A remake of the 1999 TV series of Hunter x Hunter based on the manga by Togashi Yoshihiro.

A Hunter is one who travels the world doing all sorts of dangerous tasks. From capturing criminals to searching deep within uncharted lands for any lost treasures. Gon is a young boy whose father disappeared long ago, being a Hunter. He believes if he could also follow his father's path, he could one day reunite with him.

My Entertainment Top 5 for 7/7-7/13: Hunter x Hunter, Blake Shelton, and more!

1. Hunter x Hunter- Yes, I'm an anime fan. Get over it. I've seen a few different anime series and the best way to impress me is to give me some action right in the beginning (although, I have to say that no anime does this better than Attack on Titan. You want to see some shizz go down fast? Just watch that. By episode 5 you won't be able to pick your jaw up off the floor). I don't want to mess around with basic character development (cough, Naruto, cough).Hunter x Hunter has thus far been quite solid. I'd probably put it in my top 5.The main character, Gon, while at first was a little on the annoying side (I think it's the voice actor) has started to really impress me with his blatant honesty and his potential . The supporting characters (particularly Killua and Kurapika) are phenomenal and the plot is captivating. I highly recommend it if you are looking for something to watch. To say that I was sad when I finally caught up is an understatement.I want more now. I'M SO IMPATIENT!

2. I think this video pretty much speaks for itself.

Anime Expo 2013

Yes. This is indeed what you think it is.

Let me preface this by saying just how scared I was that I wouldn't be able to make it this year.I wasn't frightened solely from the fact of not being able to go; I was terrified that after registering, figuring out my hotel situation, and purchasing my flight ticket, that work would not approve the time off for those couple of days around the Fourth of July.Since I'm newly hired and the only person in my department, my leaving depended greatly on how busy we were in the few days leading up to my proposed days.Thankfully, things worked out and I was able to follow through on my oft-repeated agreement to meet up with people. Spring 2013 Episode Rankings

No major changes to my personal rankings this week, with only one series moving more than three places up or down. There's been very little change at the top of the rankings all season, though there's a few series now at the bottom that I wouldn't have predicted 6-7 weeks ago. So, with few changes from last week worth talking about, I calculated thefor each series over the past 8 weeks, to see which series have moved around the most overall.

Yeah, I'm just that bored. But if you're reading this blog post, you can hardly talk.

Spring 2013 Episode Rankings

Was it just me, or were this week's anime offerings much better than usual? There were exceptions, unfortunately, but for the majority of the series I'm following, I'd say their 9th episodes were a step up. Here's hoping they continue to improve as we near the end of the spring season.

Nice try, lesser anime, but it'll take more than that to topple the Titan.1 -

Shingu Begins

After collecting dust for almost year, my long simmering desire to watch this science fiction series finally converted itself to actually watching Shingu. I'm only a little ways into the series. So it's a little early to start recommending Shingu to people looking for smart science fiction anime; but, Shingu is definitely trending in that direction right now.

Normally, I would be writing up my conclusions 8 days after starting to watch an older anime series because, normally, I would marathon it in a couple of days. (For example, I had Ghost Hound completely watched within 48 hours of starting the first episode.) In light of my current experiment of watching Space Battleship Yamato 2199 at one episode a week - to mimic the TV broadcast that no one is subbing - I decided to severely limit the number of episodes I would watch of Shingu in a day. I want to see if the generated anticipation increases my enjoyment of Shingu, like I think it should.

Loud Ninjas and Chimera Ants

Every anime fan becomes accustomed to suspension of disbelief. Once we learn and accept the logic that runs a particular show, we can enjoy it without becoming hung up on little things. If we can't believe in the logic, we may as well abandon the show for something more realistic... and most of us don't center our entertainment on 2D Japanese shows because we're looking for realism.

Five school idols all fall for a plain, normal girl? Sounds logical.

Cosfest XII

Cosfest 2013 is over.. The best event I've attended yet-- in terms of the quality, variety and choice of cosplay I saw over the two days and my learning experience. Taking the time off my psp to type a full recount because I want to record the experience down properly.

Initially I had 2 costumes, one for each day of the festival. Was rushing them up to the day before the event before I checked the facebook group post and realised that the Hunter X Hunter team on sunday had been postponed.

Well.. honestly it was a rather irresponsible of the team leader to not announce the news separately in a new post but I understand that he was caught up in the WCS so all it's ok~

By: Ethologist

Personally, I am looking forward to this show. Looks like it will offer a different perspective to the topic than past programs, that have covered similar topics. Also, the host seems very interesting and entertaining.
A fair amount have people on Cryptomundo in the past have made comments about certain cryptid related programs not effectively looking for/finding new species or evidence. I feel like that is a pointless argument on how good/or not so good a show is. I would never expect any of these shows to reveal anything completely new, that is not a television show’s purpose. They have a very low chance of discovering any new species (or rare species evidence/ sign), cryptid or not. That is through no fault of the television program’s crew though. All television shows are done in a format to create entertainment, not discover new species. That said, I do expect a show such as this to be very educational, while it also maintains high entertainment value. I really enjoy the show “River Monsters”. In my opinion, that program provides everything to look for in a history/natgeo/discovery type program. I hope this upcoming “Beast Hunter” show follows a similar vein: firsthand expeditions/adventure, that have a lot of educational content and still keep entertainment value.
Not saying the above to rag on people here, who do criticize such program’s for said reason. Just hoping future programs don’t get unfairly criticized for unrealistic expectations. Because that is what I imagined would be the first critique of the show after it is aired.
Side note: I wonder how he learned that Charles Fort was his great uncle?

By: Cryptidcrazy

I watched “Beast Hunter” last night and as disappointed as I was in the first 2 episodes, the Mokele-Mbembe episode was even worse. Pat seems a likable enough person and I believe his heart is in the right place, but there just isn’t enough real investigation. Too much of the show is dedicated to stuff that has nothing to do with finding cryptids. It’s more like watching a travel show. Nothing new is offered up about the cryptids being discussed. It’s the same re-hashed information and ideas.
I just don’t see how anyone can compare “Monsterquest” to “Beast Hunter”. “Monsterquest” was a true cryptozoological show and “Beast Hunter” is more like a travel show. There is still time for the show to get better and I hope it does. Maybe Pat could add a real investigative team to accompany him? Who knows? Until then, the show is losing my attention, fast.
